How Boat Registration Works in Australia
Boat registration in Australia is managed by each state and territory. There is no single national display standard. Some jurisdictions use vessel class (Queensland), some use length (South Australia), some require black block letters (Western Australia), the ACT has no boat registration scheme, and most recreational boats in the Northern Territory are not registered. Always check the issuing authority before you order stickers.

Boats vs PWC Requirements
Personal watercraft often have a different published height from motor boats, but the figure is not 100mm everywhere: Tasmania publishes 75mm PWC, Queensland PWC is 100mm both sides, and Western Australian official pages conflict between 100mm and 150mm. Sailing vessels may use a transom in NSW. Non-powered craft may not need hull numbers at all in some jurisdictions. Check the issuing authority.
Enforcement and checking your authority
Maritime authorities conduct on-water checks. Incorrect or missing registration numbers can result in fines or the vessel being directed to shore.
