Maritime Safety Queensland and Queensland Police conduct on-water compliance in Pumicestone Passage, Noosa River and offshore Sunshine Coast waters. MSQ requires legible contrasting registration numbers on all registered vessels.
- Planing ships other than PWC: Minimum 150mm character height, both sides (s37)
- Personal watercraft (PWC): Minimum 100mm character height, both sides
- All other ships: Minimum 75mm, both sides or on the stern
- Visibility: Above the waterline, contrast, readable from about 30 metres
- Lettering: Uppercase letters and numerals in a contrasting colour
